How can we stay connected while we’re apart? Many of us working in parks and communities are grappling with this challenge. In this webinar, Park People shares, the best tools and techniques being used across our National Network to serve communities when they need us most. 

We are focusing on:

  • Creative use of  simple technologies that help  keep people meaningfully connected 
  • Safe ways to make in-person community-scale actions happen to enrich communities

This session features community leaders and community park groups from across Canada that are doing incredible and inspiring work to support their communities right now.

MABELLEarts transforms parks in low-income neighbourhoods with the people who live there.

As Artistic Director,  Leah has been cultivating a dynamic, multi-disciplinary community-based arts practice for almost 15 years, incorporating public art, installation and performance with public space transformation, working with people of all ages and backgrounds.

During COVID-19, MABELLEarts have shifted their programming and services to provide a virtual experience for their community’s beloved Ramadan festival Iftar Nights and to tend to immediate community needs.

Panellist

The Overbrook Community Association is a group of motivated residents collaborating to make life better for everyone in their dynamic community on the East side of Ottawa. At OCA, Marie-Caroline coordinates special projects with youth and environmental focus.

Since the start of the COVID pandemic, the OCA has devoted their volunteer resources to delivering food to community members in need, conducting regular check-ins and providing support with financial aid applications and connecting people with community resources.
